NYC 2010 - Fashion Institute of Technology

Seana and I visited the museum at the FIT.  Two exhibits on display:  His & Hers and Japan Fashion Today.  His & Hers is a comparison of men's and women's fashion from the mid-18th century to present day.  Included in the exhibit is a great quote regarding women from an 1865 Harper's Weekly, "it is ever an amusement to contemplate the fanciful and fickle freaks of fashion."   "Fickle freaks" in 1865?

Japan Fashion Today was visually very stimulating (see the photo above with Seana).  There's a lot going on in Japan.

The exhibit included designs from Alice and the Pirates, Volks Inc, Hirooka Naoto and Yohji Yamamoto.

Seana is moving to China in February.  I will miss her, but I am very excited for her.  She will be teaching conversational English to middle school kids.  I am so proud of her.  It takes a lot of courage to move to a "very" foreign country without knowing anyone nor the language.

NYC 2010 - Brooklyn Flea

Saturday morning I got up early, stopped at the Dunkin' Donuts for my coconut coffee and took the Q-train to the Atlantic Avenue stop for a visit to the Brooklyn Flea.  During the winter, the Flea moves indoors to a former bank.  This is a junker's delight!  If it's vintage, kitsch or kewl, it can be found here.

When I was about 11 years old, the daughter of one of my mother's girlfriends gave me a stack of these romance comic books.  When my mom discovered I was reading this "trash", she threw them into the trash-bin.  Well, I was crazy for these comic books, and I secretly salvaged them and hid them in my closet behind my Barbie Townhouse and my Barbie Jetliner.  When my mom would take her afternoon nap, I would carefully make a selection and get lost in Desiree's or Gina's torrid love affair with Rick or Lorenzo or Stefan.  Coincidently, I became boy-crazy about the same time!

NYC 2010 - Afternoon in the West Village

Cherry Lane Theatre, West Village, NY

My lovely friend, Barbara, and I met in the West Village for a wonderful afternoon.   We began our outing enjoying a yummy pizza at John's Pizzeria of Bleeker Street.  This pizzeria was established in 1929 and is considered one of NY's best.  Some local guys sent us here and we were not disappointed.  Then we attended Noche Flamenca at the Cherry Lane Theatre.   I was slightly disappointed that Soldedad Barrios did not perform due to an injury.  Nevertheless, the show was fantástico.  Enjoy the clip below of Juan Ogalla; we saw him perform the dance that is showcased in the clip.  After the show, we enjoyed milk and cookies  at a bakery called, "Milk and Cookies."  This was one of my top ten afternoons of 2010!

NYC 2010 - CupCake Van

When I spied this cupcake van in downtown Manhatten,
my heart began to beat rapidly.
Seana and I shared an eggnog cupcake.
'Tis the season and it was yummy.
If they wafted the blissful aroma of fresh-baked cupcakes
while driving through my neighborhood, I would become a
cupcake mummy - with a ginormous muffin ass!

NYC 2010 - Chocolate Dogs

Almost as cute as the furry, cuddly kind.
I found this wonderful display of chocolate puppies at Bloomingdale's, NYC.
