The Old Key Lime House - Lantana, FL

This weekend a lovely visit with my mother included a delicious lunch at the Old Key Lime House in Lantana, FL.

Here is her most recent novel:
At a luxury resort on a remote key off Florida's Gulf coast, guests, staff and townspeople are threatened by the spirits of a deranged French au pair and her Seminole lover. . . a conflict brought into focus through the eyes of a child, an albino Indian and an antique toy - a stereopticon.
Here is the link to order your copy:

Of course, as I am well connected with this author, I can have your copy personally autographed.  =)

Fancy Flea and the Bosphorous Turkish Kitchen

Several weekends ago, Margie and I went to the Fancy Flea in downtown Lakeland.  Lots and lots of great stuff - vintage and artsy.  It took us a while, but we found the Chic & Shabby Girls!

Dearest Brother

To my dearest brother,
Today is your birthday, but it is my lucky day.
Although you are a grown man, you will always be my dear, little brother.
So please, be patient with me when I worry and I nag.  It's only because I love you.
In my life, there is no relationship that is more genuine or heartfelt than ours.
I am so thankful that you are my brother; I would have no other.
Happy  birthday Byron!  I love you.

SuperHero Costumes

In the spring of 2008, a visit to NYC included a must-see to the Metropolitan Museum of Art's exhibit:
"Superheroes:  Fashion and Fantasy"
The show was a "pose-off" between the original superhero costumes from major movies and the fantasy creations from designers, such as Armani, Galliano, Dolce & Gabbana, and Versace.
So, does the superhero make the costume,
or does the costume make the superhero?

Costume worn by the one and only Wonder Woman,
Lynda Carter.

Just like the superheroes of comic books and
fashion runways, this show was amazing.
Seana, Jennifer and me with superhero friends at the reception.

A Beautiful Day for a Bike Ride

My buddy, Margie, and I had a great bike ride on the Little Econ Greenway Trail at Blanchard Park.  It's a charming park with great scenery and alligators!

A graveyard is a fine place to visit . . . when the sun is shining.

Wild shrieks have issued from the hollow tombs;
Dead men have come again, and walked about;
And the great bell has tolled, unrung and untouched.

Lake Louisa State Park

This weekend was gorgeous!  The season change from hot and sticky summer to the cooler months of fall has begun.  Thank you October.  I love Fall. The weather begins to cool down and that old nostalgic feeling is stirred.  It's the beginning of holiday decorations - pumpkins and scarecrows, soon to become jack-o-lanterns and witches.
And yesterday, we discovered an unknown gem in our very own backyard - Lake Louisa State Park!  It's wonderful.  It has several lakes, hiking trails, camping sites and picturesque scenery.  There are modern (just rustic enough) cabins to rent overlooking Lake Dixie.  I'm hoping to spend a weekend in one of these cabins very soon.

Treat?

Even when asleep in one of his comfy spots, Felix can always hear the whisper of a treat.

"This Strange Effect"

"This Strange Effect" by Ray Davies has a strong effect on me.  At one time, hearing it would make me sigh with thoughts of my sweetheart.   And then came those moments when my iPod shuffle would surprise me with it, and leave me weepy. Now when I hear it, it stirs bittersweet memories.  I'm thankful this song came into my life and it will always be one of my all-time favorites.

Happy Birthday DB!

Groovy Dance Party

I loved watching the MONKEES on Saturday morning. I thought Davy Jones was the cutest, but Mickey Dolenz was my favorite Monkee. My favorite part of the show was the dance parties! The music, dancing, clothes, hairstyles and the kookiness ~ it's even more fun to watch now.

Fly the Flag Campaign

On Sunday, September 11th, 2011, I would be proud to see the American flag displayed outside every home, apartment, office and store in the United States.  Let's make it our duty to display an American flag on this tenth anniversary of one of our country's worst tragedies.  We do this to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms.

In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our country was bathed in American flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood should-to-shoulder against terrorism.  Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and it shouldn't take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity.  Our American flag is the fabric of our country and together we can prevail over terrorism of al kinds.

I'm not sure where this campaign originated, but share it with your family and friends, and fly the American flag of any size on September 11th.  I will.
